Behind Waypoint

Mother and daughter, with 30 years of combined experience

Waypoint grew out of our love of travel and of South Africa. We're not an anonymous travel agency: we stand behind every trip ourselves, with our own stories and local contacts.

Joyce

Joyce lived in South Africa for four years, fell in love with it and has returned many times since. Today she lives there for part of the year. She studied tourism and has a gift for bringing people together. Joyce is also the founder of Joyce2Journey, where she organises luxury workations.

Mirte

Mirte was born in Durban and has more than five years of experience in tourism, starting in Switzerland. She is doing PhD research on crisis and risk management in tourism at the University of Bath.

Why do we do this? Because we believe every woman should feel free and confident when she travels. Travel changes lives. We want women to discover the South Africa we know, in a way that is safe, meaningful and unforgettable. Everyone who travels with us should feel safe, supported and inspired while experiencing the very best of it.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find your question? Send us a message, we're happy to help.

Ask your question
What does the September 2027 group trip cost?

The round trip costs €3,699 per person based on a shared room or tent. Book before 31 December 2026 and you pay €3,499 (€200 early booking discount). For your own room or tent, the supplement is €350. You book your own flights.

Is South Africa safe for women?

With good preparation, yes. We choose accommodation in safe locations, arrange all transport and only work with partners we trust. Throughout the trip, you always have someone to contact.

Can I join on my own?

Absolutely. Our group trips are designed for women travelling alone. You have your own room or tent and a group around you from day one.

Do I book my own flights?

Yes, you book your own flights. We let you know when to arrive and depart so everything connects smoothly.

Do I need a visa?

Many passport holders, including Dutch, Belgian and British citizens, don't need a visa for holidays of up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days after you leave South Africa and have two blank pages. Before you travel, register your trip online with the South African Revenue Service, SARS (the Traveller Declaration). Always check the current rules before departure; your information pack explains exactly how it works.

Which vaccinations do I need?

Ask your travel clinic or GP for advice. The safari area around Kruger National Park is a malaria area, so ask about malaria prevention too.

What else do I need to arrange?

Travel insurance with worldwide cover, a South African SIM card or eSIM, and some cash for tips. Your information pack lists everything.

Is my money protected?

Yes. We are a member of STO Garant, the Dutch travel guarantee fund. Your payment goes into an escrow account and stays protected until after your trip.
